Anna Uhls Lays Out the Post-Midterm Congressional Investigations Landscape with Law360

With midterms threatening to flip Congress, Fenwick’s Anna Uhls spoke with Law360 about how lawmakers could soon ramp up investigations into tech companies—and who they will select to helm those probes.

Committees are champing at the bit to call companies to the mat over both their interactions with the current administration and larger questions their tech raises about things like access and fairness, it was reported.

"There are a lot of subject matters that are crossing many committees right now," Uhls told the outlet. "There are political issues, corruption issues, but also subject matter issues like AI and national security."

Having previously led the FBI’s response to Hill investigations, Uhls helped sketch out the kind of people Congress is outing in charge of these investigations.

"These people are hired not just as lawyers,” she said. “The role is part lawyer, part investigator, part strategist."

"They have to build and run an entire investigative operation and think at the same time about evidence and oversight objectives, institutional interest and practical consequences. It requires a combination of skills."
