Jessica Kaempf Celebrated as 'Tenacious Yet Pragmatic' Woman IP Litigator in Law360

Fenwick partner Jessica Kaempf was profiled in Law360's "She Has a Point" series, which highlights women IP litigators nominated by attorneys with whom they have had some form of an adversarial relationship.

Kaempf was picked by Kathi Vidal, the former U.S. Patent and Trademark Office director, who now works in private practice and sits across from Kaempf in an ongoing trade secrets matter. Vidal praised her pragmatism and tenacity.

"She remains calm under pressure and prioritizes collaborating and resolving certain matters without troubling the court, while still zealously representing her clients' interests," Vidal told Law360. "It is a sign of a strong lawyer that they focus on what matters — avoiding running up their client bills or unnecessarily bothering the court."

In a profile, Kaempf talked about her work on industry-shaping AI litigation and trade secrets, Fenwick's full-lifecycle approach to clients, and her inspiration to become a patent litigator.

"A lot of the work I do, for example for Databricks, is for these companies that we've helped from the very beginning," Kaempf told Law360. "As they grow into more sophisticated companies with IP disputes, I get to help with that part of their legal strategy, and so some of that is the complex IP litigation. I also do a lot of work for startups and earlier-stage companies in the AI space that is pre-litigation. For example, in the AI space, there's a lot of employee movement between different companies, and that's led to increased disputes primarily in the trade secrets space. That's a really fun part of my practice."
