Fenwick & West Elects Five New Partners

Mountain View and San Francisco, CA (February 2, 2012)– Fenwick & West LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has elected five attorneys to the partnership, effective January 1, 2012. The new partners were promoted in the firm’s Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices. "We are honored to welcome our newest partners," commented Managing Partner Kate Fritz. Steven Levine is a member of the firm's Corporate Group. His practice focuses on advising early-stage to late-stage start-up technology companies on a variety of transactions, including: formation of start-up companies, venture capital and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property protection and licensing, and other corporate and commercial transactions in both domestic and international marketplaces. He also represents venture capital firms and other investors. Mr. Levine received his undergraduate education from the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with a B.A. in political science. He also attended the University of Davis, where he received a J.D. and MBA.

Michael Esquivel is a member of the firm’s Corporate Group. His practice focuses on strategic counseling to emerging and high-growth companies primarily in the digital/mobile health, Internet, social networking, information technology and clean technologies industries in all aspects of general corporate and corporate securities law—from formation and corporate governance responsibilities and intellectual property and commercial transactions, to seed and venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings. In addition, he also represents and advises venture capitalists and investment banks. Mr. Esquivel received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law where he was a member of the Columbia Business Law Review and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He received his B.A., in economics, with honors, from Stanford University.

Hector Ribera is a member of Fenwick's Litigation Group. Mr. Ribera represents clients in patent litigation and intellectual property counseling matters nationwide involving a wide range of technologies, including electronics, semiconductors, networking, telecommunications, e-commerce and software. He has achieved positive results for his clients through jury trials, summary judgments and early negotiated settlements. Mr. Ribera graduated cum laude with a J.D. in 2002 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He was a member of the Thurston Honor Society and the Order of the Coif, as well as the Senior Managing Editor of the Hastings Law Journal. Mr. Ribera received his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of California, Irvine, where he was a member of the Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor societies and graduated with honors in 1997.

Saina Shamilov is a member of the firm's Litigation Group. Ms. Shamilov’s practice focuses on intellectual property law with emphasis on patent litigation. She represents clients in various technological fields including networking and telecommunications, e-commerce and Internet-related technologies, software engineering, computer architecture, CRM systems and database management. She was recognized as a Rising Star by Northern California Super Lawyers in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Ms. Shamilov received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2001, where she received a High Tech Law Certificate. She received her B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis in 1997.

Jennifer Stanley is a member of Fenwick's Intellectual Property and Technology Transaction groups and the Chair of the Copyright Group. Her practice concentrates on copyright counseling and structuring and negotiating complex commercial transactions relating to intellectual property, with an emphasis on new media, including video game development agreements, video and user generated content uploading and distribution agreements, e-commerce counseling, online advertising agreements, social networking, technology development and distribution agreements, inbound and outbound technology license agreements, strategic alliances, and intellectual property issues arising in mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Stanley attended law school at University College, Dublin, Ireland, graduating with a Bachelor of Civil Law in 1994. She then attended the Vrije Universiteit De Brussel, Brussels, Belgium, receiving a Masters Degree in International and Comparative Law in 1995.
