Rei helps clients in the chemical, biotech, and pharmaceutical industries navigate the complex world of patent law. Rei’s practice focuses on strategic patent portfolio management through creative design of high-level patent strategy, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the U.S. and globally. She also frequently assists with freedom-to-operate analyses, including preparing invalidity and non-infringement opinions with an eye toward clearing the path for successful market entry, and supporting clients undergoing IP diligence.
An organic chemist by training, Rei’s experience includes small molecule pharmaceuticals, lipid nanoparticles, proteolysis targeting chimeras (PROTACs), psychedelics, natural products and derivatives, prodrugs, pharmaceutical formulations, solid forms and polymorphs, dosing methodology, therapeutic combinations, organic synthesis, cosmetics, and consumer products.
Prior to becoming a patent agent, Rei received her Ph.D. in chemistry from the Scripps Research Institute. Over the course of her academic career, Rei co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles published in journals including the Journal of the American Chemical Society and ACS Catalysis. She also served as a reviewer for submissions to ACS Catalysis and The Journal of Organic Chemistry.
