Nicholas Plassaras focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and counseling, with an emphasis on copyright, trademark, false advertising, right of publicity and complex commercial litigation matters. Nicholas works closely with our video game clients, advising them at all stages of game development, marketing and dispute resolution. He provides strategic counseling on IP enforcement, new business models, branding strategy and regulatory compliance issues regarding gambling, lotteries and accessibility requirements for advanced communication services. Nicholas also regularly assists clients with copyright registrations, recordations and assignments.
Nicholas is an active member of the Video Game Bar Association. He regularly authors articles and lectures on the intersection between intellectual property and the video games industry, including publications in Law360 and Venturebeat, and recent speaking engagements at Gamescom Congress 2018 (Germany), the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, The University of Chicago Law School and the Game Business and Legal Affairs Conference sponsored by the Video Game Bar Association.
Nicholas is a life-long Nintendo, Pokemon, and Square Enix fan. When he's not online playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Final Fantasy XIV, he's dabbling in his new favorite gaming obsession: Magic: The Gathering Arena.
While attending law school, Nicholas was executive comments editor for the Chicago Journal of International Law and served as a judicial extern to Chief Judge Alex Kozinski for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
