Fenwick corporate partner Mark Stevens spoke with Richard Hsu on the ABA award-winning podcast HsuUntied.
Stevens discussed his sweeping Silicon Valley career, what he loves about working with startups and his advice for younger lawyers.
Stevens grew up with Electronic Arts and Oracle, counseling the now industry giants in their early days, leading them through financings and taking them public. This work helped shape his career; Stevens still has many clients in the gaming and enterprise software space because of his relationship with these companies as a young lawyer.
He now works with emerging companies, investment banks, and venture capital and other technology investors on complex corporate and transactional matters, as well as with mature companies in their tech-related initiatives.
“I like puzzles and there are so many unbuilt pieces in a startup puzzle,” Stevens said, when asked what thrills him about his work for startups. “With startups you really have no idea where you’re going and it is all kind of evolving in front of your eyes.”
