Fenwick Named U.S. Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year

Managing Intellectual Property honored Fenwick as the 2021 Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year for the entire U.S., which recognizes top firms and individuals for remarkable IP law achievements and developments during the past 12 months. The national honor builds on the firm having been named top Trademark Prosecution firm in the western U.S. three of the previous four years.

“We are thrilled to be named U.S. Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year, recognizing the caliber of our work and how closely we partner with clients – from recognized global technology brands to emerging startups,” said Connie Ellerbach, Fenwick trademark practice chair. “We experienced unprecedented demand from our clients this past year as the pandemic accelerated the need for tech and health related services and solutions. Consistent with our history, we focus on providing strategic business advice and adding value for clients. We are proud of our practice’s long legacy and look forward to continued growth and innovation on our clients’ behalf.”

Fenwick’s trademark practice, one of the largest at a full-service firm, handles many of the largest U.S. and international trademark portfolios in the world, including successful technology companies like Amazon, Facebook, Cisco, Intuit, NVIDIA, Libra and PayPal. The practice represents more than 1,000 companies and entities overall in trademark and trade name matters, and regularly uses technology innovation—including custom designed extranets—to deliver value to clients’ businesses.

In addition, the group is frequently sought out by brand-savvy startups in some of the most dynamic tech and life sciences sectors. For example, recent emerging growth clients include electric vehicle and personal aircraft startups; biopharma companies developing Covid-19 treatments; digital health disruptors; companies in the blockchain, crypto currency and digital payments spaces; leading-edge innovators in the artificial intelligence and data analytics fields; companies developing virtual- and augmented-reality products; and digital and mobile gaming companies in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

At the Fore of Trademark Law

The trademark group was founded by partner Sally Abel, long recognized as a global leader in trademark law and an IP trailblazer and pioneer.

Under Connie Ellerbach’s leadership, Fenwick has earned recognition as U.S. Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year by World Trademark Review in 2021 and was named Trademark Firm of the Year for the Western United States by Managing Intellectual Property three of the previous four years, underscoring the group’s preeminence in strategic trademark protection and exclusive focus on all aspects of trademark counseling and enforcement.

The group has been broadened and strengthened by partner Karen Webb, consistently ranked as a top trademark attorney, and by newly elected partner Mark Jansen, who is developing a reputation as a keen advisor to crypto, blockchain, AI and augmented reality/virtual reality businesses.
