Fenwick’s Saina Shamilov Named to Inaugural List Recognizing Top Women in PTAB Trials

Fenwick patent litigation partner Saina Shamilov has been recognized on the PTAB Bar Association’s inaugural Top 50 Women in PTAB Trials list.

This ranking honors lawyers in private practice and in-house attorneys who have appeared in the highest number of trial proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board since 2012.

Saina is a trial lawyer and practitioner representing the world’s leading technology companies in high-stakes patent litigation disputes. She has nearly 20 years of experience in all aspects of pre-trial, trial and appellate practice, including extensive experience representing petitioners and patent owners in front of the PTAB.

Recent victories include representing more than 60 customers of Amazon Web Services in an effort to shut down a patent litigation campaign by nonpracticing entity PersonalWeb Technologies, successfully staying the suits against the customers and winning summary judgment, eliminating some of PersonalWeb’s claims. Additionally, Saina represented Amazon when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld the team’s win at the district court finding the asserted patents invalid under the U.S. Supreme Court’s Alice v. CLS Bank standard or non-infringed in Innovation Sciences LLC v. Amazon.com Inc. As a result of these and other wins, The Recorder honored Saina and the entire Fenwick litigation department as a 2019 Tech Litigation Department of the Year finalist.

Saina has also received additional recognition from various publications. For example, IAM Patent 1000 has recognized her as a leading patent litigator who is “a trusted partner all around,” “quick to understand complex technology” and “terrific at discovery.”

Northern California Super Lawyers has repeatedly honored Saina as a leader in her field, while the Silicon Valley Business Journal has named her one of Silicon Valley’s most influential women. Among her other recognitions, the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Justice & Diversity Center named her an Outstanding Volunteer for her pro bono work.
