International Tax Review has honored Fenwick in its 2020 edition of World Tax, which recognizes the world’s leading tax firms. Fenwick is one of only three law or accounting firms nationwide to rank first tier for general corporate tax, tax controversy and transactional tax. The guide names Fenwick among the top tax law firms in California, one of just three recognized in the general corporate tax category. The firm is also the only firm ranked tier one in ITR’s tax controversy and transactional tax categories.
The research for this year’s guide involved reaching out to over 10,000 clients and over 2,700 practitioners for feedback, and the rankings and leading practitioners include over 2,200 firms and over 100 jurisdictions.
ITR noted Fenwick’s significant recent tax matters, including advising The Cheesecake Factory—which has more than 200 restaurant locations around the world—in a case before the U.S. Tax Court), representing Loxo Oncology in its $8 billion acquisition by Eli Lilly—among the largest in 2019, and representing GitHub in its $7.5 billion acquisition by Microsoft.
Clients interviewed by ITR praised Fenwick’s tax practice:
Fenwick tax lawyers handle complex transfer pricing matters and international tax planning and represent companies in tax dispute resolution and big-ticket federal tax litigation. The group represents both domestic and international clients, having counseled over 50 Fortune 100 companies and more than 100 Fortune 500 companies. The Fenwick tax team also handles high-stakes transactional work, including international restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and spinoffs.
In addition to the honors from ITR, the Fenwick tax group consistently earns recognition from publications including Euromoney, Chambers USA, Chambers Global, The Legal 500 and World’s Leading Tax Advisors.
