Gregory A. Hopewell counsels clients in strategic patent prosecution in a range of technical fields, including software, electromechanical devices, and medical devices. Greg’s practice has an emphasis on software such as computer modeling (machine learning, neural networks), computer vision, cloud computing, social networking, advertising, financial products and systems, encryption, blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies and gaming.
His practice also includes patent valuation studies by assessing likely infringement of addressable markets and validity risks to a portfolio. Greg has experience both working with brokers to prepare portfolios for sale and working with buyers in performing diligence of broker work-product. In addition, Greg performs opinion work, including freedom to operate, validity, and infringement studies. Greg was recognized as a “Rising Star” in 2014 – 2017 in the area of Intellectual Property by Northern California Super Lawyers.
Greg formerly practiced as an attorney with Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear LLP in Irvine, CA, where he also practiced patent litigation. Prior to his legal career, he was a software engineer at Codonics, Inc.
